Witnessing diverse industry players in the global community with the same goal in climate action, sharing immediate action in tackling climate change during the COP28, Dubai, UAE, has been an amazing learning journey and a massive opportunity for me after my first participation in COP 2007. Especially, being a part of PT Vale Indonesia Tbk (PTVI), an integrated nickel mining and processing company in Indonesia, of which the commitment to reducing carbon emissions was globally announced for the first time during COP26. At COP28, the priority is to showcase the progress of the efforts.

Participating in a series of climate discussions, PTVI CEO Febriany Eddy in the “Adoption of transition energy, nature-based solution, biomass and circularity as practical climate change solutions” on 1st December, highlighted PTVI’s progress of major initiatives in technological, mining and reclamation routes, including biomass, and the conversion of fuel to natural gas, as the most viable option for short-term approach in the energy transition. Contributing to 700 thousand tons of CO2 reduction, “We have a clear roadmap, as well as very detailed project planning. What we promised, we will carry out,” Febriany said.

Together with Dr Zahrul Muttaqin Forestry Attache of the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, Ir Sigit Reliantoro Environmental Pollution & Degradation Control, the Indonesian Ministry of Environment & Forestry, Aika Yuri Winata Apical GM Green Energy Biofuel Feedstock & Business Development, Maher Al Kaabi Advisor to the Chairman of Alserkal Envirol UAE, and Hudi Suryodipuro Head of Program & Communications SKK Migas, translating the commitment into solutions in the energy transition.

Earlier, in the CEO Climate Talk “Transitioning to New and Renewable Energy Future” with Amri Siahaan Director Medco Energi, Rachmat Makkasau President Director of AMMAN, Darmawan Prasodjo CEO PT. PLN (Persero), Gita Tiffany Boer Director PT. Astra International, Tbk. and Dr Efransjah EFRANSJAH Febriany presented PTVI’s significant investment in new renewable energy – the hydropower plants, which have been producing 365 MW of electricity – 100% of the energy source for nickel smelting.

Emphasizing nickel as a part of critical minerals of which the business must be sustainable and also through green mining practice, PTVI also took the opportunity in the talk show with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry “Zero Waste and Zero Emission Goals on Municipal Solid Waste”, sharing Refuse Derived Fuel – the product of community solid waste treatment, processed into alternative fuel, as a part of the effort of “PTVI Zero Waste to Landfill 2025”.
Moving toward the net-zero ambition, let’s bring all action to what matters the most: how much impact we bring to our society.
